The Island Chapter season began with the Pro/Pro at Bahia Beach and a win by the team of Hector Fernandez/Eduardo Figueroa, the second event was held at Palmas del Mar and Eduardo Figueroa won the Pro-Am event with Jason Tobar coming in 2nd and Hector Fernandez coming in third. Aaron West was the winner of the Trump International Pro-Am on March 23rd, with Alberto Rios the host professional finishing second and Robert Moreno, Hector Fernandez and Jason Tobar in a three way tie for third. May 13th saw the first play-off of the season after matching 71's by Aaron West, Eduardo Figueroa and Hector Fernandez, Hector Fernandez won the playoff on the third sudden death hole. June 4th marked the El Conquistador Pro-Am and the victory of Benny Nieves. Hector Fernandez finished second and Rigo Morales, Robert Birtel and Eduardo Figueroa finishing in a tie for third. The Dorado del Mar Pro-Am was held on June 11th and host professional Aaron West got his second victory of the season, Jason Tobar finished second and Hector Fernandez, George Smith and Robert Moreno finished in a third place tie. The Plantation Club hosted their annual Pro-Am on July 2nd, Junior Castrillo won the event with Jason Tobar finishing second and Rigo Morales finishing third. The Pro-Jr. tournament was held at El Llegado and Jason Tobar once again took home individual low professionals honors with Robert Birtel losing in a playoff in this season of playoffs. September 17th marked the Caguas Real Pro-Am and another victory by Jason Tobar, second was Robert Moreno and third Joel Ortiz. The Pro-Superintendent "Agro Open" took place at El Conquistador with 20 teams in the field a great time was had by all. The October 15th 1 Pro-1 Am tournament was won by Yoyo Rosario and his amateur partner Mike Santin while the team of, Hector Fernandez/Felipe Colon and Aaron West/Rob Holmes and Jose Rodriguez/Alfred Colon came in tied for third. The first annual Island Chapter Open was held at Trump International with the top ten and ties making a 54-hole stroke play walking qualifier into the 2009 Puerto Rico Open to be held at Trump International March 2009. Qualifiers in order were, Max Alverio, Mauricio Muniz, Elvin Gonzalez Jr. Robert Moreno, Aaron West, Jason tobar, Hector Fernandez, Alfred Colon, Alberto Rios, Manolo Rivera and Felipe Colon, congratulations to all the participants. Robert Moreno and Jose Rodriguez came away with the victory at Costa Caribe on November 5th after darkness cancelled the playoff after 4 holes, Robert Birtel and host professional Tony Loyola tied for third with matching -1 (71's). The Rio Mar Pro-am was won on November 19th by Jason Tobar with Aaron West finishing second and Mark Clouse in his first event finishing third. The annual Liberty Cablevision invitational had the largest purse this season with $15,000 in prizes and Aaron west won the event with a birdie on the second sudden death playoff a day later. Robert Moreno and Jason Tobar were tied for second after their play on Thursday and Friday. The Island chapter season ends on November 30 and December 1st with back to back events in Ponce at Costa Caribe with the Don Q Cup (Pro's Versus Am's) being contested over 27 holes on November 30th and the final event of the season taking place December 1st, the Chapter championship will decide the player of the year race and the Player Card champion. Current points leaders include:

The scoring title includes four players with scoring averages below 73, Aaron West, Hector Fernandez, Jason Tobar and Robert Moreno

The Island chapter rescheduled and held the 1 Pro-1 am tournament on Sunday, November 2nd at the slightly soggy River course at Rio Mar CC. Host professional Robert Moreno was a gracious host and our thanks go out to him and his staff. The gross event was won by Carlos "Yoyo" Rosario and his amateur partner Mike Santin, their (-8) 64 was a tremendous score in the conditions. Second palce went to Hector Fernandez and his amateur partner Felipe Colon, with a (-7) 65. A third place tie between the team of Aaron West and his amateur partner Robert Holmes and Jose Rodriguez and his partner Alfred Colon with a (-5) 67 rounded out the top three. Thank you once again to our important sponsors including Don Q, medalla, Coca-cola, Kilpatrick, Agro Servicios, Center Court sports, Nike Golf, Sports Group, Mauricio Campos, JS Construction, Club Car, our host professional and host clubs.Wednesday, November 5th marks the Costa Caribe Pro-Am in Ponce, Puerto Rico 12:30. The facility will also host the year end Pros V. Ams and the Chapter championship November 30 and December 1st.

Perfect conditions lead to low scores for the Pro-am at Costa Caribe, Wednesday November 5th, 2008. After a four hole playoff couldn't decide the winner, the first tie of the year was declared after matching 69's by both Jose Rodriguez, teaching professional from Trump International and Robert Moreno Director of Golf at Rio Mar Country Club. The (-3) 69's were the best scores in competition for both Robert Moreno and Jose Rodriguez this season and the victory is the first for both in an individual tournament this season. A third place tie between host professional Tony Loyola and frequent kite surfer, sometimes golfer Robert Birtel with matching (-1) 71's matched the low score for each of these two competitors in 2008. In fifth place was Rafael Castrillo Jr. with an even par 72. Points leader Aaron west shot 73 to extend his points lead over his nearest competitors Hector Fernandez, Jason Tobar and George Smith who did not participate. Robert Moreno moves up to third place in the points standings with the victory behind Aaron West (81), Hector Fernandez (71), Robert Moreno (66). The Island chapter has three official events left in the 2008 tournament season including the Rio Mar Pro-Am November 19th @ 12:30, the Pro's V. Am's @ Costa Caribe November 30 @8:00 and the Chapter Championship December 1 @ 8:00 at Costa Caribe.
