The annual Pro-superintendent tournament "The Agro-Open" took place Monday October 6th @ 12:30. The winning team of Heath Henrich and Rio Mar's superintendent Dennis shot a 2-man best ball 67 to take the crown, the runner-up team of Aaron West and Dave Rozek shot a 68 to take second place. Individual Pro honors were taken by Benny Nieves with a (+1) 73, with Rio Mar Director of Golf shooting (+3) 75 to take second place, a three way tie for third included Heath Henrich, Aaron West, Hector Fernandez and George Smith with (+4) 76. This important event brought together the Island chapter professionals, their superintendents and all the sponsoring organizations in the agricultural industry together for a weekend of golf and camaraderie. The Sunday afternoon skills challenge was won by Jason Tobar (Island chapter) and Chris Strickland (superintendent).
The Annual 1 pro, 1 Am event will take place Wednesday October 15th @ Rio Mar Country Club. This event pits 1 Island chapter professional with 1 amateur of their choice in a scratch best ball event.
The first ever Island chapter Open will take place October 25th and 26th @ Trump International. The event has a cost of $250 per player but includes practice round with cart for any pre-paid individual (Mon-Friday before the event Oct. 20-24) two tournament rounds with golf car 11:00 a.m. Saturday, 8:30 a.m. Sunday, tournament cap, tournament divot tool, food following Sunday's play and drinks following Sunday's play. Top ten finishers along with ties will participate in a closed qualifier for the Puert Rico Open presented by Banco Popular in March 2009. Based on 50 participants their will be a $7,500 purse for the professionals and gift certificates to Trump International's shop for the amateurs. Tournament winner and low amateur will also take home Crystal trophies from sterling cut Glass and the Gran Melia Resort has been kind enough to offer a $100 rate at the hotel for Saturday October 25th. All these factors make this an important and exciting event for the Island chapter 2008. The final four chapter events in November and December will be the Costa Caribe Pro-Am Wednesday November 5th @ 12:30, the Rio Mar Pro-Am Wednesday November 19th @ 12:30, Don Q Cup Pro's V. Am's tournament Sunday November 30th @ 8:30 at Costa caribe Resort Ponce and the Chapter Championship @ Costa Caribe, Ponce 8:00 Monday December 1.
