The Island chapter completed the Professional- Junior tournament Aug 4th at El Llegado Resort and Club in Guyama, Puerto Rico with host professional Carlos cestero taking the team crown. Jason Tobar and PGA professional Robert Birtel finished with matching (-1) 71's in the windy conditions and Jaso Tobar went onto win with a par on the second playoff hole for the individual professional victory. The Island chapter take the rest of August off as many of the Island chapter PGA professionals attend the Aruba International Pro-Am August 21-24 @ Tierra del Sol. The Pro-Junior was immediately followed by a short end of summer chapter meeting where the board members for 2009-2010 were elected. Aaron West will return as president of the Island chapter, with Seth Henrich maintaining his post as Island chapter Vice-President and Robert Birtel maintaining his post as secretary. Year end award nominations were also opened up at the end of summer meeting. Nominations will close at the Pro-Super tournament October 6th, indepth award applications are due by November 19th @ the Rio Mar pro-am and final voting will occur immediately following the Chapter championship December 1st, 2008 @ Costa Caribe Country Club in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The next official Island chapter event will be the Professionals versus the Amateurs tournament September 7th, 2008 at Costa Caribe Country Club @ 8:30 a.m., followed by the tentatively scheduled Caguas Real Pro-Am, September 17th and the Agro-Open Pro-Superintendent tournament October 4-6th, 2008.
