September 22nd, 2007 marked the UBS interlcub golf tournament. Thirteen teams representing the Island of Puerto Rico's golf clubs. The Jeff Willenberg lead Palmas del Mar Country Club took home the UBS cup. Individual Professional Jesus Rodriguez shot a stableford 37 or a stoke play (71) -1 to take home individual honors. The UBS event is an important event for the Island golf clubs and professionals to get together and compete for yearly bragging rights as well as a perfectly prepared tournament which includes team shirts, awards dinner and full service tournament operations. Thank you to the UBS company for their support of golf in Puerto Rico. Specifics thanks is due to Mr. Eugenio Belaval, Mr. Willie Rivera as well as Mr. James Thordsen and his staff that the tournament went off without a hitch.

Player card holders Daniel Santiago and Hector Fernandez participated and put up great showings.

The Island Chapter completed an important weekend on Monday with the Pro-Superintendent tournament. The event, a showcase of the agronomy industry took place at El Conquistador and included a product showcase, meet and greet cocktail party, poker tournament, practice round and 18 hole best ball tournament. Low individual professional honors went to George Smith Assistant professional Dorado Beach, followed by Hector Fernandez from Club Deportivo, third place tie was Paul Venezinao and Benny Nieves with matching 76's.
September 26th marks the Coco Beach Pro-Am followed by the third chapter meeting of the year. The tournament will be held at the future host of the 2008 PR Open the first full field PGA tour event ever held in Puerto Rico. October 14th marks the Pro's v Am's down in Ponce, Puerto Rico and October 17th Nevin Phillips will be hosting the Mahogany Run Pro-Am in St. Thomas. The Island Chapter's fall home Costa Caribe hosted their annual Pro-am on Wednesday September 12th, 2007 @ 12:30. 17 professionals and their teams participated in the 4 man best ball gross and net event. The wind was blowing but the scores hovered around par all day. Points and score leader Aaron West pulled out his first victory of 2007 with a (-1) 71 on the Ponce links, a four way tie for second place between, Miguel Colon, Rafael Castrillo, Robert Moreno and Hector Fernandez at (+1) 73 finished out the top five. The Hector Fernandez lead team won the low gross with a 62. The host pro Tony Loyola won a score card playoff with a net 59, followed by the Carlos Cestero lead team (59) and the Junior Colon team finished in third also with a (59).
The important Pro-Super tournament will be held on September 17th, Monday at El Conquistador. Record sponosrship dollars have been raised to make this a first class event for the Island chapter 2007 season, each golf professional will be paired with their Superintendent and 2 sponsors from the turfgrass industry.
