The Pro-Junior tournament was held @ Caguas Real on June 26, 2006. Host Professional Paul veneziano provided some tough pin placements after the weeks rain as well as a firm set of greens for our participants to negotiate. In the Pro division Junior Castrillo "The Rake" lead the way with an even par score of 70, followed by Robert "cha cha cha" Birtel with a 71, third place was Hector Fernandez with a 72, Jesus rodriguez fired a 73, Aaron West with a 74, and Rigo Morales with a 75. The Castrillo team also took first place in the team division with a 7 under 63 in the follow the pro scramble format. The Birtel team fired a 5 under 65 and won a score card playoff against the Fernandez team who finished third with a 5 under 65. This was the first year the Pro-Junior has been played in five seasons and it is the current Executive boards feeling that community events helpo elevate the organization. June 12, 2006 marked the second PGA/PRGA junior golf clinic. The host site El Conquistador was gracious in accepting our small group of 6 juniors for the experience. Seth Henrich, Director of Golf, @ El Con provided instruction as well as Aaron West, Head Professional, Dorado Beach, and Robert Birtel, Head Professional, Plantation Club. A good teacher to student ratio as well as excited juniors made the day enjoyable. We expect a large turnout for the July 17, 2006 PGA/PRGA junior golf clinic at Rio Mar, so all Island Chapter members who can make their services available for this event please contact Aaron west @ westaaron@hotmail.com, or @ 787-310-7991.

May 31st, 2006 the Palmas del Mar Pro-Am while lacking the participation of the previous three events did not lack the great play from our chapter members. The winning score of -5, 67 was shot by Robertito Moreno in his first win as an Island Chapter member in convincing fashion. Robert blistered the field with his 67. Second place for the second tournament in a row was player card holder Hector Fernandez with a -2, 70, followed by Bobbie Birtel with a +1, 73. Winning gross team was Mr. Moreno's, 1st place net went to Mr. Birtel's team, 2nd net was the team of Aaron West, and third place net team was Hector Fernandez's team. The next scheduled event is the pro-junior. The entry fee will be $200 per team and we are excited for this event that has been off the schedule for 3 years now. The Executive Board has agreed that development programs, specifically junior golf is at the forefront of our goals for 2006 and beyond. Please get a team together and come have enjoy this fun event. Juniors need to be between 10-18 and not yet enrolled in college. All juniors under 13 will play the red tees, 13-16 the whites, and 17 and over will join the pro's on the blue tees. A follow the pro scramble will be the format for the event. Prizes will be awarded for top three teams and top three professionals. The next scheduled Pro-Am is July 19th @ El Conquistador in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, and our next scheduled chapter function is June 12 @ El Conquistador for the PGA/PRGA Junior golf Camp, which was a great success at Dorado Beach in May.
