This months profile is of Robert C. Birtel, the newly promoted Head Professional of the Plantation Club at Dorado Beach. Robert Birtel (Cha Cha Cha) comes to us from the gulf coast of Mississippi, where he was the assistant professional at The Oaks. Robert is one of only 15 Class A PGA professionals in the Island Chapter and headed up the newly redesigned Plantation Club's Pineapple and Sugarcane golf courses as well as a massive clubhouse and one of the most expansive practice facilities on the Island of Puerto Rico. Robert is currently in second place in the points standings for Island Chapter Player of the year.

The 1 Professional 1 Amateur tournament, AKA bring your best, is in the books and the winner is Rafael Castrillo Jr. with a winning score of -5 (67). He and his partner Carlos Juncos made 6 birdies with just one bogey to win by a shot over Hector Fernandez and his partner. The Dorado Del Mar course was a little wet, but in great shape for this yearly event. With 11 professionals participating it was a successful event that we look forward to for 2007. Host Professional Paul Veneziano finshed with a score of -2 (70), and won a scorecard playoff against Director of Golf from Rio Mar Robert Moreno, who also shot a -2 (70). Other professionals participating included Daniel Santiago, Rioberto Morales (Caguas Real), Jose Rodriguez (Dorado Del Mar), Aaron West (Dorado Beach), Jesus Rodriguez (Coamo Springs), Alberto Rios (Coco Beach) and Robert Birtel (Plantation Club). The next scheduled event is for Wednesday August 16, 2006 @ 12:30 at Coco Beach with a short meeting to follow at the clubhouse.
